I have been clear the US strikes on Venezuela were about oil, not drugs. I have called out the American actions as contrary to International Law and as a vocal defender of international law, I have been consistent in arguing that such reckless behaviour only emboldens our rivals and undermines international stability. You can read my full response to Trump’s actions in Venezuela in The Mirror, here.

Like many of you, I believe Britain has a duty to stand up for protect the international system we helped set up in aftermath of WW2 to ensure peace and prosperity for our citizens. It is imperative that we keep holding powerful actors to account, even if they are our allies. I spoke in the House on this very issue, urging the Foreign Secretary to call out Trump’s actions for what they are, a breach of international law. You can read my full question here

In February, the Foreign Affairs Committee and I held an evidence session on the United States’ actions in Venezuela, examining its worrying implications for international law and order. You can read more about the session here.
