Sudan
Sudanese people are facing violence on an unimaginable scale. This is the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world, with millions having already fled their homes in the face of a power struggle that has brought about unconscionable and abhorrent atrocities against civilians and famine.
I am horrified by reports from the UN fact-finding mission of despicable acts of murder, mutilation, sexual violence and torture committed by warring parties. I have spoken in Parliament on the need for even greater attention to be given to this unfolding tragedy, which you can read here.
I wholeheartedly support the Government’s prioritisation of Sudan when it comes to giving aid and assistance.
I stand behind the International Criminal Court’s active investigation into the situation in Darfur, the UK’s long-standing arms embargo in place for Sudan, and the freezing of assets belonging to the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces.
