This week, I had the pleasure of being taken round St Mary Islington by Islington Guided Walks.

St Mary’s has been at the heart of the Islington community for hundreds, possibly thousands, of years and has watched as Islington has grown from a small hamlet, renowned for its fresh air and market gardens, to the bustling, multicultural inner city gem it is today.

Though it was the first London church bombed during the Blitz, its 18th century tower remains and has been opened to the public for the first time in three centuries. I just about made it up the 120 spiral steps to see the views from the top!
