FCDO & ODA Budget Cuts

This Government’s decision to increase defence spending is a welcome one. But I am disappointed that this increase came at the expense of the UK’s aid budget.  

In February 2026, I secured a debate in the House from the Backbench Business Committee so that Members could scrutinise cuts to the FCDO budget. I am also working closely with my friend and Chair of the International Development Committee, Sarah Champion, to make sure that returning to this 0.7% GNI target remains a top priority for the Government.
