Emily Thornberry Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury
Shadow health minister Emily Thornberry and Tottenham MP David Lammy joined local Labour Party members in Crouch End on Saturday campaigning against government plans for the NHS , due to be debated in the House of Commons this week.
The party was warning that local NHS services remained under threat from the plans, backed by local Lib Dem MP Lynne Featherstone. Shoppers queued up to sign a petition urging the Coalition minister to change her position.
Emily Thornberry said: “I am delighted to be campaigning in Hornsey and Wood Green with such a vibrant and active local Labour Party.
“The response of the public makes it clear that Lynne Featherstone does not reflect the views of the area.”
Hornsey and Wood Green Labour Party Chair Matt Downie added: “It was fantastic to have Emily with us, helping us send a clear message to Lynne Featherstone that local people are against this money-wasting top-down Lib Dem Tory reorganisation which is threatening local health services.
“Hornsey and Wood Green people are telling us overwhelmingly that they do not want these plans which mean privatisation, postcode lottery health services, more red tape and less accountability. It’s time Lynne Featherstone listened to her constituents.”
