Emily Thornberry Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury
Emily sang “Happy Birthday” to our NHS at a birthday party for the health service organised by the TUC yesterday.
The NHS is 63 years old this week, and Emily and the Shadow Health Team were joined at the celebration by doctors and nurses from all over the country and by Frances O’Grady, Deputy General Secretary of the TUC.
Later on, Emily livened up proceedings on the Health Bill Committee, which is debating the Tories radical and reckless plans for our health service, by handing out NHS birthday cakes to all the MPs.
Emily said:
“The 63rd birthday of our NHS is definitely a cause for celebration, and I was delighted to sing “Happy Birthday” with doctors and nurses from all over the country.
“But, while our NHS has had a great 63 years, we are all very worried that the Tory governmen’s reckless reorganisation means the NHS as we know it will not make it to 64.”
