Lebanon
I am deeply alarmed by Israel’s ongoing aerial bombardment of Lebanon, which continues to inflict devastation on civilian communities in Beirut and across the south of the country.
My blood ran cold when I heard the Israeli Defence Minister say his war aims in Lebanon would follow “the model in Gaza,” and I have shared my horror directly with the Prime Minister. In Parliament, I have pressed the Government on what actions it is taking to prevent Israel from taking over Lebanon south of the Litani river, and as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, my team and I are preparing to travel to the region to meet with Lebanese officials and representatives of civil society.
Our aim is to better understand how the UK can support the people of Lebanon and help advance a diplomatic resolution to this devastating conflict.
