Emily Thornberry launched a competition for young people after a visit from City and Islington Sixth Form College to the Houses of Parliament. The lucky winner of the competition will attend a reception for young people at Number 10 Downing Street on November 14th.
The competition is open to Emily's constituents in Islington South and Finsbury aged 16-24. Emily is asking young people to write in to tell her why they should get the chance to come to Number 10.
For example, maybe you've done voluntary work, started an apprenticeship or are involved in sport, and would like to tell Emily about your experiences. Or maybe you would like to tell Emily your ideas to improve Islington and the country.
Emily Thornberry MP said:
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for one of my young constituents to come to Number Ten. It's going to be extremely hard to choose just one winner because so many young people in Islington do fantastic work in their communities and deserve more recognition."
The competition has been prompted by a visit from City and Islington College to Parliament on October 15. The 60 sixth form students had a tour of Parliament and then a question and answer session with Emily, who was impressed by their understanding and enthusiasm for politics.
No 10 Downing Street is a historic building which began its association with the office of the Prime Minister in 1730. Nearly 300 years later, it is still the office of the Prime Minister and at the heart of the government.
The deadline for the competition is 5pm on November 8th. To download an entry form click here.
