Housing Association Bill

My Bill to improve the rights and representation of housing assocation tenants.

I am working to change the law to improve the lives of people who live in homes run by Housing Associations. I have tabled a Private Member's Bill that would give tenants and residents of Housing Associations more power over their landlord.

My law would give residents more choice over how their home is run, and it would mean big decisions about their homes would not be taken without asking them. For people living on a badly-run estate, this law should give them the power to make real changes for the better. And even for people who live on a well-run estate, the law would give them the power to maintain and improve services for all residents.

My Bill is called the Housing Associations (Rights and Representation of Residents) Bill, and the ideas in the Bill have begun to get the Government's attention. I spoke to the Housing Minister Yvette Cooper MP about the issues raised in my Bill and she launched a Government review.

I wanted the Government to hear what Islington residents thought so I took a group to a meeting with the team carrying out the Government's research.
