Affordable Housing

Fighting for more affordable housing for the 13,000 families on the housing waiting list in Islington.

There are 13,000 families on Islington's waiting list for housing.

But the Lib Dems who run Islington Council are letting developers build more and more luxury flats-and hardly any homes for local people. In fact, since 2000, less than 1 in every 7 new homes have been affordable for local people.

This means that the Lib Dem Council is forcing people to stay on the housing waiting list, when it could be getting more affordable homes built for people who live in Islington. The Lib Dems are not listening to what local people want.

Islington Labour is determined to change this. We want at least 50% of housing in all new buildings to be affordable for local people. That would be fair. The developer can have their half, but we get the other half to help the families on Islington's waiting list.

I am  working with the Government and local Labour Councillors to force Islington's Lib Dem Council to listen to local people and build more affordable housing.
