He arrived in London in April 1902, and left England a year later in April 1903. During that time he lived in 30 Holford Square, Clerkenwell - which is where present-day Bevin Court stands.

Edmund Colthurst obtained a charter from King James I in 1604 to construct the New River. He dug the first two-mile stretch, but than ran into financial diffulties. Sir Hugh Myddleton took over the project and completed in September 1613.
