Hungerford School’s message for No. 10

1 May 2009, 3:54pm

Emily Thornberry visited Hungerford School this week to collect letters from pupils urging Gordon Brown to work with Barack Obama and other world leaders to make sure all children around the world have access to education.

In their letters, the school children urged the Prime Minister to push for the Millennium Development Goal of all children completing primary education by 2015. Currently, there are over 70 million primary-age children worldwide who are not enrolled in school.

Emily, who has promised to deliver the letters to 10 Downing Street on behalf of Hungerford pupils, said:

"The pupils at Hungerford were very passionate about the importance of making sure all children around the world can read. As well as being important in getting a job, they also said reading was important so you know what bus to get, and you can help your parents with their medication. I'll give the letters to Gordon Brown with great pleasure."
