Despite torrential downpours 30 London cycle commuters dressed in jackets and ties raced around Smithfield Market for the privilege to be named the fastest cycle commuter in London. Emily started the race and presented the winner, Richard Bailey, with a new Dahon MUSL folding bike.
The commuter race was part of the Smithfield Nocturne, an evening of cycle racing on a circuit around the historic market buildings. Several thousand spectators turned out to enjoy the event which precedes by two weeks the start of the Tour de France in London.
