Emily Thornberry has opened the new offices for Islington-based mental health charity the Stuart Low Trust.
Emily was invited to open the trust's new offices after meeting Lou Baron, a volunteer at the Trust's drop-in centre, for tea at the House of Commons. Ms Baron was a finalist in Emily's recent ‘Older Heroes' search for elderly volunteers in Islington.
The Trust's new offices are based on White Lion Street near Angel. The trust also holds regular drop in sessions in Cross Street for people to write poetry, play music and chat.
The Trust provides support to people with mental health problems mainly from Islington and Camden - though some people had come from as far away as Enfield, Hertfordshire and Surrey.
Emily said:
"I'm really proud we have this Trust in Islington for people with mental health problems. This organisation is a model of how communities can work together - you've got Trustees alongside staff and committed volunteers like Lou, all working together to provide the services."
