Nick Clegg says the Constitutional Reform bill which had its second reading in parliament yesterday is the “biggest shake-up of our democracy since 1832". Well, I shudder to think that the cloak of radicalism – and the great cause of electoral reform – is being wrapped around a sectarian piece of legislation that ignores 11,000 of my constituents.

Chris Huhne and David Cameron never tire of claiming that the coalition will be “the greenest government ever” – and media reports had lead us to believe ambitious new policies would be announced in yesterday’s speech by Chris Huhne. But in the end it was only the rhetoric that was ambitious.

The Alternative Vote - I am against it. I might be more enthusiastic about a referendum if there were a third option on the ballot paper, maybe “I want the government to get on with something which actually matters to people’s lives”. I’m certain the result would give the coalition some perspective. Currently the proposals do little to improve our electoral system while doing away with the benefits of “first past the post” and using up any political capital for real electoral reform.
