Istanbul Convention

I am committed to the ratification of the Convention and voted in favour of the Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence Bill at the last reading on the 16th of December.

Last Friday the Bill had its third reading in the House and I was speaking at an international conference fortunately however I was able to get back to the House in order to vote in favour. Due to my position on the Labour front bench I was unable to speak during the debate however I am very pleased that the Commons have now passed this bill and hope that it quickly passes through the Lords to become law.
