More Homes Now
Build more homes now
The Tory-Lib Dem government is making big changes that will affect residents in council and housing associations homes in Islington.
This year, the government has said it will:
- Force council tenants’ rents up 7%
- Give housing associations the power to double rent for new tenants
- Break up stable communities by threatening more evictions
These changes are reckless and wrong for Islington - I have spoken out in Parliament against these plans
More than this, I am fighting for more affordable housing for the 14,000 families on the housing waiting list in Islington.
Islington Labour is determined to change this. We want at least 50% of housing in all new buildings to be affordable for local people. That would be fair. The developer can have their half, but we get the other half to help the families on Islington's waiting list.
